CNNMoney enlisted Fortune, Money, Essence, and Sports Illustrated in a year-long special feature, Assignment: Detroit. One off-chute is an advertising competition to pitch Detroit, reflecting on the question, “Why would anyone smart, young, and creative move to or stay in Detroit?”
I like ShackletonPlan.com’s submission (above) with this extra copy on their site:

“Some people have a gift to see below the surface. Beyond the hype and the stereotypes They’re the people who look for opportunities where others only find problems. The ones who find rewards when others can only see uncertainty. Today, Detroit stands poised to reward the brave among us. Those willing to invest their time and energy in the unknown. Not because they’re risk takers, but because they’re visionaries. Those are the people wanted most.”

Urban agriculture sabbatical 2010; who’s coming with me? In reality, I haven’t the foggiest idea how, or if, I could engage The D in a mutually rewarding way. That hasn’t dampened my armchair entrepreneurial speculation; or idle fantasies about putting my stuff in storage and buying a bungalow on plastic to foment the next big thing.
