The Media Big 10

Sometimes great insights gleaned from the news are seeded accidentally. Reading about ”Obama’s Baby Momma” drama, amidst reports some Fox News higher-ups regretted staffers’ poor judgement, I found this deft multi-way disclosure:

Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal…Employees at Time Warner Inc.’s CNN and General Electric Co.’s MSNBC, and a contributor to Fox News have all confused “Obama” and “Osama” in the last year …

Just look at that bipartisan, media subsidiary chain gang piling on the gaffes!

Malkin sullies her brand. It calls to mind the Nation’s several years old ”The Big 10” project. They produced a detailed chart depicting the overwhelming, incestuous media holdings of a small group of conglomerates. Though overdue for revision, it’s current enough to get the idea.

For the record, I’m usually all for consolidation; like when it comes to beer pong cups, hard drive defrags, my student loans, etc. I just don’t like it when companies that manufacture our airplane engines and telecommunications systems are also manufacturing consent.
