Sometimes great insights gleaned from the news are seeded accidentally. Reading about ”Obama’s Baby Momma” drama, amidst reports some Fox News higher-ups regretted staffers’ poor judgement, I found this deft multi-way disclosure:Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal…Employees at Time Warner Inc.’s CNN and General Electric Co.’s MSNBC, and a contributor to Fox News have all confused “Obama” and “Osama” in the last year …
Just look at that bipartisan, media subsidiary chain gang piling on the gaffes!
It calls to mind the Nation’s several years old ”The Big 10” project. They produced a detailed chart depicting the overwhelming, incestuous media holdings of a small group of conglomerates. Though overdue for revision, it’s current enough to get the idea.
For the record, I’m usually all for consolidation; like when it comes to beer pong cups, hard drive defrags, my student loans, etc. I just don’t like it when companies that manufacture our airplane engines and telecommunications systems are also manufacturing consent.
