After seeing Mint.com, a free site for managing personal finances, praised in several places - I decided to give it a whirl. While it’s no panacea (yet?), I recommend it for average Joe’s wanting a quick way to see their situation at-a-glance without lots of work. It’s significantly cut the time I spend keeping tabs on precisely how staggering a debt I’m running up through my 20’s.
It handles many (definitely not all - they’re still adding more) checking/savings, credit, brokerage and retirement accounts - automatically updating your balances, flagging unusual activity, tracking payment due dates, and the like. They’re ad-supported, but in an unusually discrete way.
